Yapahuwa

A mediaeval Sri Lanka capital (1272 CE) Yapahuwa is located on the way to Anuradhapura from Colombo. The ancient palace of kings (Buwanekabahu the first and successors) is situated on a rock boulder which is 90-meter-high than surrounding low land. After it was occupied by Buddhists monks and later abandoned. Archeological remains of palace are still there. Carved staircase, the stone lions, a Buddhist temple are some of worthies to see.
